Infertility is a condition wherein couples can’t conceive a child even after a year of intercourse without the use of any protection. Realize that this is a couple’s problem and not just the issue of one partner. Therefore, it has to be solved by the two individuals involved.
One of the reasons why infertility arises is because of the condition of the cervix. For conception to occur, there should be ample mucus in the cervix. Too little or too much of it can affect the fertility rate of a woman. Cervical mucus serves as the nutritional support of the sperms. Through it, they can swim freely inside a woman’s body and live long enough to fertilize an egg cell. The condition of the mucus has to be conducive to the sperm cells – not hostile – for conception to occur.
When certain substances become present in the cervical mucus, they become hazardous to the sperms instead of be friendly to it. As such, the mucus itself attacks the sperm, depleting any chance of fertilization at all. This condition is considered another cervical factor to infertility and there are many reasons why this condition arises. Sometimes, it is caused by the kind of semen from the male gland itself. On the other hand, there are certain contraceptives that change the composition of the mucus in such a way it won’t allow the sperm to live.
Other cervical factors to fertility include the narrowing of the cervix, which is a condition called stenosis. Cervical infections brought upon by sexually transmitted diseases such as gonorrhea, Chlamydia, and trichomonas also contribute to infertility.
Cervical infertility is just one reason why couples can’t conceive. And there’s still a whole range of other possible causes. If you are suffering from infertility, consult with your doctor so you can get correct the condition soon enough.
